THAI PREMIER LEAGUE TROPHY
2015 Thai Premier League finished and Buriram stamped their name to the base of TPL trophy for the 4th time. Football Forward Thailand will tell you about the story of Thai Premier League Trophy.
The current trophy of TPL started to use in 2011 season. One year before that, Football Association of Thailand and Thai Premier League co.ltd considered to improve the image of TPL and it glossaries for the more international standard and feels. The trophy is one of the improvement. The old TPL trophy was the classic style of Thai trophy which have the big ball as the identical. It shared the similar appearance with Divison 1 trophy. They looked to made the new one as the modern silverware and decided to choose the British silversmiths to create the new iconic reward of Thai Premier League.
The new trophy designed by Glue Creative from England and produced by British Silverware of Sheffield. The trophy crafted by 100 percent silver with the European style of a crown. Three of divas are holding up the trophy and three golden elephants are standing on the base.
The trophy is 75cm tall and its weight is more than 30 kgs since it is the whole silver metal. The production used 250 man hours of work and the finished trophy worth 2 million baht ($60,000).
In the first years of usage, 2011 TPL, this trophy became the talk of the town when Buriram United clinched the champion title with 2 matches left. They requested to held the ceremony in their home game vs Muangthong (the match before the last). By the way, FAT denied the request with unexplainable reason. The Association forced Buriram to held the trophy ceremony in Chiangrai United home stadium (last match). The last game ended at 2-2 and Buriram just sent 2 club officials to receive the trophy from the hands of Sir.Dave Richards (from English FA, who was invited to be the honorable guest). Then, they headed home without any celebration.
TPL trophy is the one cup trophy (need to send back to TPL). The champion of each year will stamp their name on the base of the trophy. Since 2011 up until now, there were just 2 clubs that had the right to touch this item. Four times of Buriram and one of Muangthong.
